Qianchuan Wooden Doors "360" — Interview with Zhang Fan, Business Department Manager of Qianchuan Wooden Doors
At Qianchuan, when Zhang Fan is mentioned, many people give a thumbs up and express deep admiration.
At Qianchuan, Zhang Fan can be called the "Qianchuan version of 360," integrating multiple functions in one. "Qianchuan Wooden Door 360" is the latest title given to her by Zhou Xingqi, the manager of the publicity department, showing his obvious appreciation.

At Qianchuan, the most common evaluations of Zhang Fan are that she is straightforward, daring, and focuses on issues rather than people. She is considered an extraordinary woman with great personal charm. In the eyes of Luo Baitao, general manager of Qianchuan Wood Industry Group, "Zhang Fan's biggest characteristics are directness, sincerity, and logic. In her view, no matter how big the world is, the matter itself is the most important. She dares to speak frankly; no matter who it is, wrong is wrong. The second admirable trait is her exceptional comprehension; she understands many things quickly, focuses her attention, and can quickly engage in work. The third is her warrior-like demeanor, effectively assisting leadership." Mr. Luo further stated that Zhang Fan's image represents the company's brand and image, and the company needs more such capable talents.
Zhang Fan currently serves as the head of the Business Department at Qianchuan Wooden Doors. It has been three years since she first joined the company. During these three years, she started as a clerk in the manufacturing center and gradually worked in multiple departments, including after-sales, scheduling, and business. It is precisely because of her solid work in various departments that she is well-versed in the company's daily operations and can quickly accept challenges and perform well in new roles.
2010 was a turning point. That year, Zhang Fan resigned from her previous job and, through a friend's introduction, became a member of Qianchuan. For ordinary talents, this was just a job change, but for her, it meant giving up an opportunity for advancement simply because of her dislike. Zhang Fan said, "If I don't like the atmosphere of a workplace or company, I won't stay there." Just like when she graduated from university and resolutely gave up her family's arrangements to find a suitable workplace on her own, this was another choice. Thus, she came to Qianchuan quietly, with some expectations.
"I chose a special day to join Qianchuan, March 3rd, which is Kite Festival. Look at how peaceful the kites fly in the sky. Also, the number '3' has special meaning to me because I was born at 3 PM on the third day of the lunar new year." Her tone was like that of a young girl, her face beaming with a bright smile as she looked up at the sky. From her eyes came innocence, hope, and freedom.
When mentioning the high praise from company leaders and colleagues, she casually said, "As Teacher Zhou said, I focus on issues, not people, in my work. No matter who you are, if something is wrong, it is wrong. I won't let your status or social power affect my judgment." Her straightforward nature is fully reflected in her words and actions. Respecting truth, respecting facts, and discerning right from wrong have always been her personal standards. When dealing with her department's employees, if they make mistakes, she insists on correcting them. "Right is right, wrong is wrong; things cannot be done vaguely and passed over." She judges right and wrong clearly, not allowing ambiguity to exist; black and white must be distinct.
Like most children born in rural areas, she came from Guang'an, the hometown of Deng Xiaoping. Due to her family's modest means and parents often being away, Zhang Fan had to be more sensible and mature than her peers from a young age. Looking at her now, it's hard to imagine she was once a quiet, introverted girl who was reluctant to communicate. Her change came from the deep influence of teachers during her education. Her junior high homeroom teacher taught her personal etiquette and communication skills; her high school homeroom teacher cultivated her serious attitude toward every task, transforming her from a child with uneven academic performance into a well-rounded good student. Her mother's determination also left a deep impression on her mind: once a goal is set, it must be achieved.
It is said that the beginning is always the hardest, but for Zhang Fan, things were not that complicated, even though it was an industry she knew nothing about. Her first position at Qianchuan was as a clerk in the manufacturing center, a role unrelated to her major or work experience. She did not resist but accepted it gladly. "When entering a company, you must first understand it, learn the work and production processes. The manufacturing center is the closest to the grassroots and the best place to understand the company's job positions. In my view, every step a person takes must have value, at least 50% value. Doing something should align with your goals and prepare you for future development."
After a month of learning and understanding, she was assigned by leadership to the after-sales department. Mentioning the after-sales department, her spirit immediately brightened, "The after-sales department is where I stayed the longest and should be the place I have the deepest feelings for. There, I turned difficult tasks into easy ones."
But when she first entered the after-sales department, things were not so good. "To put it bluntly, the after-sales department had very little status at that time. For example, when the company issued notices, our department was not even informed." Although she told this with a smile, it revealed the helplessness she once felt. Zhang Fan said that the after-sales department was newly established at the time, after-sales service was not yet formalized, and a complete work system had not been formed. Coupled with her lack of experience in after-sales service, she indeed encountered many problems in the early stages.
Wooden doors are customized products; without understanding their structure and production-sales process, it is impossible to solve problems when difficulties arise. Zhang Fan told reporters that in the after-sales department, she should thank Wu Ping, the customer service manager who once helped her selflessly. "Whenever there was a problem, I had to ask him. If he was in the office, I asked him face to face; if not, I called him. Sometimes I made five or six calls a day to inquire and seek guidance." Manager Wu highly praised the girl who grew step by step under his leadership: "Zhang Fan is a dedicated, pragmatic, and eager-to-learn employee who makes sure to understand any unknown issues. The quality analysis report for repaired products in my department was started by her when she joined. We spent a month discussing and improving the report. Zhang Fan provided the most accurate direction for product processes and technical improvements, including measurement and installation." Her courage to ask questions is a major strength; she asks colleagues and leaders, anyone more knowledgeable than herself, until she understands what she does not know.
As she self-evaluates, "I must ask about knowledge I don't understand. I like to ask, for example, when someone rejects something I did, I ask why until I understand the truth. Asking more 'whys' and learning more at work makes my knowledge comprehensive and helps improve my abilities. Also, regarding work itself, attitude largely determines success or failure. Only by mastering the right methods and having firm determination can things be done well."
She stayed in the after-sales department for nearly two years, working diligently every day and achieving extraordinary results in an ordinary position. Actively cooperating with leadership and colleagues, through sample modifications, standardizing work systems, and increasing staff, the after-sales department formed a complete service system, growing from the initial three people to its current scale. Zhang Fan's outstanding performance earned her leadership's recognition and promotion to section chief of the after-sales department.
There is a kind of power in Zhang Fan that can be aptly compared to the company's "360 antivirus software." Wherever there is "virus," sending her to eliminate it significantly improves the safety level. In 2012, the dispatch department was quite chaotic, as described by Xu Yong, who once worked with Zhang Fan. Work was not progressing smoothly, and people were anxious. Therefore, in March, the leadership finally decided to transfer Zhang Fan to the dispatch department as the head. "The company's leadership has their own plans for assignments. Maybe they think my personality is suitable and my execution is strong, which is also a recognition of my ability and a trust in me," Zhang Fan said about this transfer.
"At the beginning of working in the dispatch department, I felt physically unwell and often wanted to vomit. At first, I thought it was due to my poor health or a stomach problem, but it lasted for a long time. Eventually, I found out it was an allergy to paint." However, Zhang Fan did not leave the dispatch department immediately. With a responsible attitude towards work, she persisted for three whole months. During this period, she got the work processes back on track and sorted things out before applying to transfer back to the after-sales department.
Xu Yong from the dispatch department spoke of Zhang Fan with admiration, "When she came, the dispatch department was quite chaotic. After she arrived, she first stabilized the morale, then streamlined the work of the dispatch department, clarified the responsibilities of each position, and established corresponding assessment systems. I have always thought Zhang Fan is a thoughtful person with her own work ideas and methods." In November 2012, Zhang Fan was transferred to the business department as a supervisor. This was a new area for her, and she had to start from scratch, personally learning and familiarizing herself with the business department's work. But Zhang Fan said, "Although I was unfamiliar with planning, everything is about exploring and moving forward. I feel no problem with the challenge of new work. Everything is actually simple. If you don't do it, you think everything is complicated, but when you do it yourself, you find it is actually very simple."
This confidence and composure come from years of accumulation and experience at Qianchuan. Zhang Fan is outspoken and has never encountered particularly difficult problems at Qianchuan. As long as she coordinates with leaders and colleagues, everything is simple. Regarding the current situation in the business department, many issues are about to change. "The thing that troubles me most now is the high turnover rate in the business department. The next focus is to reverse this situation. The workload is too much and too complicated; one person does not have enough energy to do everything well," Zhang Fan said. They have already made some adjustments. Currently, the pricing in the ordering system is manually calculated by business specialists. The next step is to maintain price adjustments in the system for automated processing, allowing business specialists more time for other tasks. Daily work in the business department includes order taking, price review, product review, payment checking, accounting, as well as material distribution and order chasing. The process is complex and requires great patience to coordinate various matters. Zhang Fan said she will further adjust the department's work, reasonably distributing tasks to each customer specialist to form a more standardized workflow.
At Qianchuan, she has felt a good corporate culture atmosphere where everyone works with dedication and responsibility. She believes it is best to complete tasks efficiently during concentrated working hours. As General Manager Luo commented, "From Zhang Fan, one can see a kind of drive and determination to treat work as a career." And the growth and development of a company require such talents.
If given another chance to choose, would you still stay at Qianchuan? When asked this question, Zhang Fan was a bit shocked and then seriously told the reporter, "I do not regret joining Qianchuan because I like it, which is why I have stayed here. I have found my team, and a good team is very important for both the company's development and my personal growth."
Regarding her career development plan, Zhang Fan has good intentions, and we have seen all she has done for her work. She frankly said, "Qianchuan has great development potential. The company has its own plans for my career development, and I have my own ideas. But the most important thing now is to learn and gain experience so that I am always ready to make a breakthrough."
