Spare no effort, stand firmly with Lushan — Qianchuan Wooden Doors 4•20 Lushan Earthquake Rescue Documentary

At 8:02 a.m. on April 20, 2013, the earth suddenly trembled. "Earthquake!" people exclaimed. Frontline production workers, office staff, and dormitory employees at Qianchuan Wood Door Factory all rushed to the factory square.

In an instant, more and more people gathered in the factory square: women holding babies, colleagues holding children, some barefoot, some without coats, and the elderly and young who had run out of bed. Everyone looked panicked and fearful, all saying the earthquake was very strong. They speculated where the epicenter might be and took out their phones to call family, relatives, and friends far away, but all they heard was the continuous "beep beep beep..." Communications were cut off.
Having just experienced the May 12 Wenchuan earthquake, that fear lingered in everyone's mind and body. Everyone's faces were serious, as if sensing something ominous.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, Wu Ping, the customer service manager, learned online that the earthquake occurred in Ya'an, with the epicenter in Lushan, measuring 7.0 magnitude. Upon hearing this, everyone kept dialing phones anxiously. Some female employees began to cry. A female workshop worker said, "A few minutes ago, I called my child. He said he hadn't gotten up yet. After the earthquake, I kept calling but couldn't get through. Now I finally got through, but no one answered. Something must have happened at home." Her face was streaked with tears as she kept saying she had to go back, even if she had to walk without a vehicle.

Li Xiankai's grandmother passed away! Gao Yongdong's father passed away! Zhang Ping's parents were injured! Huang Ke's cousin went missing... One piece of bad news after another came, and people's emotions nearly collapsed.
Some employees took luggage from the dormitory building one after another, extremely anxious and eager to return home.
More than 1,000 employees at Chengdu Qianchuan Wood Industry Co., Ltd.'s Chengdu base, nearly 600 of whom are from Lushan, Ya'an, and the vast majority of them come from Longmen Township, the epicenter.
The news exploded like bombs right before their eyes, leaving no time to think.
Emergency plan activated, earthquake relief task force immediately advances to Lushan.
After the earthquake, Luo Baitao, general manager of Qianchuan Wood Industry Group, rushed to the company, immediately convened senior management, and organized a 30-person disaster relief task force to rush to the disaster area. The Qianchuan Wood Door Disaster Relief Command Center was established with Chairman Luo Zhengren as the chief commander. Employees, 50 company vehicles, and 500 frontline production staff were quickly mobilized and assembled on standby. They gathered 500 tents, rain shelters, umbrellas, instant noodles, bread, mineral water, and other supplies to enter the disaster area. To enable unified command and mobilization of materials and personnel, the command center numbered the vehicles uniformly, lining them up outside the company gate...

On the way back to the company, Chairman Luo Zhengren ordered by phone the company's primary post-earthquake action: stop production and organize employees to return home in an orderly manner to fully participate in rescue and relief efforts.

Employees from Lushan were not only eager to go home but also wanted to participate in the rescue. Employees from other places also signed up to join the earthquake relief task force.
At this moment, a major problem arose for many employees entering the disaster area: since it was the weekend, children were at home. What to do with the children? "What about our kids? Should we take them back or leave them here? Who will take care of them if they stay here?" Many began discussing this issue.
At this critical moment, after a brief discussion, the newly activated Qianchuan Earthquake Relief Command Center broadcasted a notice to employees heading to the disaster area to leave all children inside the company. A temporary Qianchuan Wood Door children's school was established, with the company arranging employees as temporary teachers to look after the children.

Under the unified deployment of the command center, more than 1,000 people registered on the playground to join the standby team. At this time, company and employee vehicles formed a long line at the Qianchuan gate, loaded with relief supplies. Everything was proceeding in an orderly manner. At 9:30 a.m., the second batch of personnel and rescue supply convoys set off, heading toward Ya'an, Lushan, and Longmen Township in Lushan.
General Manager Luo Baitao went deep to the front line to guide earthquake relief efforts.
After an hour and a half of travel, the lead convoy arrived at Duoying, Ya'an, and received bad news: a large rock blocked the 318 National Road section from Ya'an to Lushan. Road repair was underway ahead, forcing the earthquake relief task force to stop and wait for further instructions.
At this time, the company reported that General Manager Luo Baitao would lead the follow-up personnel and supplies to the earthquake disaster area in Lushan to personally guide the relief work. As the 82nd vehicle loaded with personnel and supplies left Qianchuan, Qianchuan Wood Door's full-scale relief work for the April 20 Ya'an Lushan earthquake began.
This news undoubtedly encouraged the stalled Qianchuan lead team. After a brief discussion, two plans were made: the group split into two routes. Bai Yunkun, supervisor of the first factory's flatbed workshop, and Liu Yan, business specialist of the engineering department, led over 30 people to advance on foot. This route was about 32.8 kilometers. The rest of the personnel and supply convoy returned to the highway and detoured toward Yingjing County, then through Tianquan County to Lushan County.

General Manager Luo instructed on the road: "After arriving at the disaster area, the primary goal is to understand the on-site disaster situation, quickly report disaster information and urgently needed supplies to the company command center, and also participate in local rescue work. Help wherever help is needed, carry out emergency rescue wherever required, and wait for the arrival of relief supplies."
At 3 p.m., after more than two hours of hiking, the first Qianchuan emergency rescue team of over 30 people reached Lushan County town. According to Bai Yunkun's report, the mountain road was treacherous, with a high cliff on one side and a steep drop on the other. "Walking on this road, we could be hit at any time by falling rocks from the mountain. There were landslides everywhere. We saw a large rock blocking the middle of the road. Rescue and emergency vehicles could only enter the disaster area by relaying on both sides. In some landslide areas, vehicles passing by raised dust instantly. We walked carefully but had to speed up. When tired, there was no time to rest; we drank water and kept going. Some female comrades were panting from exhaustion, but none said they wanted to stop. Everyone's heart was only with the epicenter and the disaster-stricken villagers waiting for rescue."
Upon arriving at Lushan County, the old town was severely damaged, with broken rubble and bricks everywhere. The disaster situation is an order, the disaster situation is a mission, and everyone fully engaged in emergency rescue operations. A message was sent back to the Qianchuan Wooden Door Command Center, stating that the disaster area urgently needed a large number of tents, raincoats, water, and food. The Qianchuan Wooden Door Earthquake Relief Command Center, based on the latest frontline information, decided to urgently dispatch tents to the disaster area.
Around 5 p.m., vehicles and Qianchuan rescue team members traveling from Yingjing to Lushan arrived one after another.
After understanding the situation in Lushan, under the direction of General Manager Luo, some people searched for open spaces next to the People's Hospital in the new district of Lushan County, waiting for the arrival of tents and other relief supplies brought by General Manager Luo's team, while helping nearby disaster victims with rescue efforts. Others continued advancing toward Longmen Township, the earthquake epicenter. Upon arrival, the situation was very bad. Along the way, houses were severely collapsed and damaged. Fortunately, injuries were minor, and the affected people were preparing to set up temporary simple tents in open spaces. Many company employees' homes are in Longmen Township; many had no time to visit home or only briefly checked the situation before actively returning to relief work, distributing tents, water, and food to victims whose houses were completely destroyed. Manufacturing Center Director Ren Baizhou said, "In the eyes of the disaster victims receiving tents, we saw a flicker of light. At this moment, I felt powerless. I didn't know what to do for them and feared that too many words might hurt their already wounded hearts. We could only say to them, 'People, as long as you are okay, that's what matters!'"

Around 10 p.m., after traffic jams and route changes, General Manager Luo Baitao led the main team and relief supplies to finally arrive at Lushan County. General Manager Luo Baitao, Customer Service Center Director Wu Ping, and others formed a temporary on-site command post in Lushan to discuss the current disaster situation and further work deployment. They sent a message back to the Qianchuan Wooden Door Chengdu Command Center that the earthquake disaster area had power and water outages and rain was expected, urgently needing tents, raincoats, food, and water. In the early hours, near the entrance of the county hospital in Lushan's new district, the earthquake relief team, led by Luo Baitao, set up temporary tents and arranged water, bread, instant noodles, and other supplies to distribute to the hungry and starving people, hoping to be the best wish for the disaster victims the next morning.

Just after 6 a.m. on April 21, the sky over Lushan was still slightly bright. General Manager Luo led a group from Lushan to Longmen Township to understand the disaster situation, distribute urgently needed supplies, and comfort the local people.
Seeing the severe disaster in his hometown, General Manager Luo's face grew solemn. This place was where he grew up, and the feelings were beyond words.
When he arrived at the home of Manufacturing Center Director Ren Baizhou, Ren's father told General Manager Luo about the harrowing situation. The elderly man said, "The earthquake shook the newly built house into this state. Although it didn't collapse, there are cracks inside and outside. How can people live here? In just a few years, we've experienced two major earthquakes. Oh my God." General Manager Luo comforted the elderly, saying, "As long as people are safe, damaged houses can be repaired. The concerns of company employees are the concerns of Qianchuan. Qianchuan Wooden Door will not forget its hometown. For now, you must take good care of your health." Then he took out his phone to report the situation to the Qianchuan Wooden Door Chengdu Command Center and informed them of the urgently needed supplies.
In the square of Longmen Township Hospital, upon hearing that Qianchuan Wooden Door General Manager Luo Baitao had arrived, many people gathered around him and told him about their family's disaster situations. "The situation is very bad; the houses are completely uninhabitable."
Immediately, General Manager Luo and local Qianchuan employees set up temporary tents in Longmen Township to help passing disaster victims, volunteers, and media friends by providing mineral water and rest areas.
Around 3 p.m., Qianchuan relief supplies arrived one after another.
General Manager Luo and Manager Wu split into two groups, distributing tents, umbrellas, water, and instant noodles along the line from Lushan to Longmen to roadside disaster victims, advising them to be cautious of aftershocks. During this process, a noticeable aftershock occurred, causing some precarious houses to collapse, raising dust everywhere. Later news reported that this aftershock was as strong as magnitude 5.4.
After distributing for nearly two hours, around 6 p.m., General Manager Luo went to the government office to donate water, instant noodles, bread, and other supplies to the local township government, which arranged unified distribution to the disaster-affected people.
Rear support: Qianchuan Wooden Door spares no effort to fully guarantee earthquake relief.
Qianchuan's earthquake relief work for the April 20 Lushan earthquake was fully launched, with Qianchuan Wood Industry Chairman Luo Zhengren personally commanding the relief efforts. The command center continuously monitored the disaster area dynamics and directed frontline rescue personnel. Upon receiving messages from the frontline, the company informed employees about their hometown's situation in real time via web pages, Weibo, and SMS. After understanding the disaster area's needs, the earthquake relief command center urgently allocated tents, instant noodles, and water for transport to the disaster area. Statistics show that currently, 101 vehicles, 2,000 personnel, and 1.3 million yuan worth of supplies have been dispatched to the disaster area, continuously providing the strongest support.

The Qianchuan Earthquake Relief Children's Charity School was established after company employees departed, providing nanny-style care for the children left behind by employees working in the disaster area, allowing parents on the frontline to fully focus on rescue operations.
For several days, female employees gave up their weekend rest to come to the Qianchuan Charity School to accompany the children, singing, dancing, playing games, teaching them to draw, arranging table tennis and billiards in the company recreation room. They ate and slept with the children, so the young kids would not feel lonely and could shift their longing for their parents to the older sisters and brothers.

After learning that Qianchuan Wood Industry Group established the charity "Children's" school, Chengdu TV came to the company on the 21st to interview and comfort the children.
To reduce the children's psychological trauma, the company did not inform them about the disaster situation in their hometown. However, one child remained very silent, rarely playing with others, standing alone in a corner. His behavior caught the teachers' attention. "Child, what's wrong?"
At that moment, he suddenly burst into tears, and everyone was stunned.
"My... my grandmother... was crushed to death when the house collapsed..."
This child is named Li Xiankai, and his home is in Longmen Township, Lushan County, the epicenter of the earthquake. These days, the company has arranged for Zhao Li from the Customer Service Department, who is also a teacher at the Loving "Doll" School, to accompany him at all times. Zhao Li said, "I eat with him, sleep with him, take him to school, and even bring him home, hoping to provide him with a warm home environment so he can temporarily forget this tragic event."
With the end of the 72-hour golden rescue period, the Qianchuan Earthquake Relief Command held its third operational meeting to summarize the first phase performance, upholding the principle that life is above all. The second phase of work was arranged, emphasizing that resuming production is the best form of disaster relief. A service department for employees from Lushan affected by the April 20 earthquake was established, becoming the best bridge between the government and affected employees, better serving employees, society, and supporting earthquake rescue efforts.
The Chairman emphasized: "In the face of the Lushan earthquake disaster, Qianchuan employees must achieve a triple win: win smooth production! Win normal income! Win post-disaster reconstruction!"
The third batch of personnel and materials is gathering in the factory area and will further enter the disaster area to continue participating in earthquake relief efforts.
All sectors of society have also extended helping hands, showing concern for Qianchuan. The people of Qianchuan, adhering to the spirit of "At this moment, we are in Lushan," have gone deep into the disaster area to participate in rescue efforts.
As the Chairman reported to the Lushan County Party Committee and County Government: To achieve a comprehensive victory in the Ya'an-Lushan earthquake relief battle, Qianchuan will spare no effort.
