From the coast to the inland, from supervisors to general workers, I have no regrets! — A record of Qin Pingbo, the material preparer in the woodworking workshop at Qianchuan Wooden Door Central China Base

Ordinariness is not frightening; what is frightening is misunderstanding the meaning of ordinariness. Behind every seemingly ordinary position, there is its own unique greatness. The interviewee this time—Qin Pingbo, a material preparer in the woodworking workshop at the Central China base—is such a seemingly ordinary person who has his own pride.
The day before the interview with Qin Pingbo, a notice from the Central China base came saying that Qin Pingbo accidentally injured his hand while working overtime at night and has been resting at home these past two days. Upon hearing this, the reporter immediately sent him a message to ask about his injury. He simply replied, "The injury is not serious, it's nothing. We are all members of Qianchuan, and work is something that should be done. Thank you for your concern."

On the night of the interview, Qin Pingbo sounded quite energetic on the phone. He told the reporter that his hand injury was no longer a big problem and that he could return to the workshop the next day. When asked how he injured his hand, he shyly laughed and said, "It was my own carelessness. It's quite hot here in Hubei, and while working overtime at night, sweat got into my eyes. I rubbed my eyes with my hand, and the dust on my hand got into my eyes, causing a stinging sensation. Then my hand accidentally touched the machine and got scratched." "I will be more careful in the future and won't let this happen again," he added. The Central China base endures unbearable heat; even at night, the temperature remains high, but production work in the workshop does not stop because of this. Everyone wants to push up the output with great effort and often works overtime voluntarily at night. Qin Pingbo said that he usually works overtime until 9 or 10 pm, then goes home, takes a shower, and sleeps. Although it is hard work, he feels very fulfilled and happy.
Ten years of hard work, from ordinary worker to production supervisor
Qin Pingbo, 33 years old this year, is a veteran who has worked in the furniture industry for more than ten years. When talking about his experience, his voice on the phone became noticeably excited, as if recounting the proudest moment of his life. In 1998, at 18 years old, he went alone to Guangdong to work in a company producing office furniture owned by an American boss as an ordinary worker. At first, he just wanted to learn more experience while he was young. Unexpectedly, he stayed for more than ten years. Qin Pingbo rose from an ordinary worker to a production supervisor, and his salary increased from just over a thousand to more than five thousand, completing a significant stage victory in his life. Only he knows the hardships and fatigue he endured during this period.
When the reporter asked why, having already become a supervisor, he chose to leave the economically developed Guangdong region and return to his relatively underdeveloped hometown in Hubei, giving up his supervisor position to start again as an ordinary worker, Qin Pingbo said with ease: "Sometimes work is not just about blindly pursuing money; I value dignity and peace of mind more." He said that the American boss always looked down on mainland Chinese, and the company's senior management was either sent from the US or from Hong Kong, with no mainland Chinese holding key positions. Having reached the supervisor level, there was no room for further promotion. Moreover, the company's environment was too comfortable, with six days off every month. Everyone seemed to be just passing time without passion for work. He was still young and could not live such a comfortable life so early. So, he left the job he had worked hard for ten years, carrying some regrets and hopes for a new life, and started anew.
Five years of exploration, learning while searching
In 2007, Qin Pingbo returned to his hometown in Hubei. Although the development speed there was slower than in coastal areas, it was close to home, allowing him to take care of his family and live happily. After returning, Qin Pingbo tried many jobs, worked in sales for a while, and even ran a small business. During these five years, he experienced confusion and hesitation. Having left the furniture industry, he seemed to have lost his direction. He searched for suitable job opportunities while thinking about his future until he encountered Qianchuan.
One year of persistence, gaining much
By chance, Qin Pingbo saw a recruitment notice for Qianchuan Wood Doors at a job fair in his hometown, and his heart lit up as if he saw a bright path ahead. At that time, two managers from Qianchuan Wood Doors' Central China base were responsible for recruitment. After mutual understanding, Qin Pingbo decided to join Qianchuan. The two managers also felt that Qin Pingbo's more than ten years of experience in the furniture industry suited Qianchuan well. On June 4, 2012, Qin Pingbo arrived at Qianchuan Wood Doors' Central China base. He recalled that Manager Wu Qing led eight new employees to start basic infrastructure construction in the factory area. "There were few people and many tasks, everyone worked hard but happily. We felt not only like employees of Qianchuan but also like the main characters building our own home," Qin Pingbo fondly recalled those "hard times."
After the Central China base officially started trial production, Qin Pingbo was assigned to the woodworking department. Although he had worked in the furniture industry before, the wood door products, which require complex craftsmanship and fine workmanship, were much more complicated than the office furniture he had made before. He had to start from scratch and carefully learn each process. He said that at that time, the masters from the Sichuan headquarters taught him hand by hand. The masters taught seriously, and he learned carefully. With his qualifications and experience, he quickly became familiar with the entire production process. After more than a year of adaptation, he has now become a master-level figure at the Central China base and even mentors several apprentices.
Because the Central China base was just starting trial production, the output efficiency was not high, and workshop workers did not receive the expected wages, causing unrest. However, Qin Pingbo was not affected by these negative emotions. He not only worked hard himself but also encouraged his apprentices: "Keep a long-term perspective, don't just focus on immediate benefits. These are tough times, but as long as we persist, we will see hope. Qianchuan will definitely develop better! You have to believe me!" Encouraged by him, everyone gradually settled down and started working earnestly. Now, the production efficiency at the Central China base has greatly improved, workers have received their expected wages, and morale is stable. Some workers who had resigned have returned to the factory seeing Qianchuan's promising development. In more than a year at Qianchuan, he has gained experience, happiness, and most importantly, dignity. The leaders care about him very much, often asking about his work and placing great hopes on him, making him feel that he has found his place at Qianchuan. He needs Qianchuan, and Qianchuan needs him!
There are many more decades ahead, and he believes he will go further
"I am still young and have a long way to go. I don't regret giving up a high position and high salary in the coastal area!" When asked if he regretted giving up his original job, Qin Pingbo said, "Everyone here gets along very well. I believe in Qianchuan's future development. This place will definitely develop very well! I also want to stay in my hometown and contribute to its economic development!"
The road ahead is long and arduous, and I will search high and low. Ten years of hard work, five years of exploration, and one year of persistence—this ordinary yet determined journey has opened a magnificent chapter of his own. Best wishes to Qin Pingbo; we believe he will gain more at Qianchuan. We also wish Qianchuan a brighter future!
