Unique Efforts Can Radiate Charm — Exclusive Interview with Gong Shiyi, Secretary of the General Manager's Office of Qianchuan Wood Industry Group
This world is constantly playing out acts of dedication and touching moments, some big and some small, some that bring tears to one's eyes, and others that command respect. When a person performs an ordinary job with meticulousness, seriousness, and without complaint, the power that bursts forth from such dedication and emotion feels even more profound and deep.
For women, especially pregnant women, a woman enveloped in maternal radiance exudes a charming aura. People say pregnancy is the most beautiful moment in a woman's life, and a serious, unpretentious pregnant woman even more so. Gong Shiyi, secretary to the general manager's office of Qianchuan Wood Industry Group, is currently living the life of a beautiful expectant mother.
Now six months pregnant, she still sticks to her post, even though she constantly vomits and suffers greatly. In her own words, "In the early stages of pregnancy, various reactions made me feel so uncomfortable I wanted to die." Under such circumstances, she still chooses to do her job well, persevering until the flowers bloom and the moon shines, embodying the image of a true work expert.

Gong Shiyi does not look like a workaholic on the outside; she seems more like a poetic, calm, and serene woman with a neighborly and classical temperament. Her neck-length short hair, plain face, clear and spirited eyes, and faint smile make one involuntarily think of a poem: "As lovely as a peach in early spring, as pure as a chrysanthemum in late autumn." More than anything, she exudes simplicity and tranquility, giving a sense of detachment from the mundane world.
But after chatting with her for a few sentences, you will easily discover her inherent seriousness and rigorous thinking pattern. This rigorous and serious attitude has run through her years at the company and is integrated into everything she does. In the prime of her youth, she quietly stays true to herself, steadfastly doing practical work, moving forward according to the destiny her character has given her.
Heaven's favor: The child is especially precious.
Currently, Gong Shiyi is undergoing a major life change, fully embodying the role of an expectant mother. When she learned of the child's arrival, it was unexpected. Although she had been preparing, she did not expect it to happen so quickly. Behind this, although there was much anticipation, it was still accompanied by worry and trouble.
Her health has never been very good, especially in 2014 when she underwent a minor surgery due to her physical condition. For Shiyi, who was at the best age to become a mother, this was both a physical issue and a helpless urgency regarding the timing of having a baby. These two conflicts deeply troubled her. But heaven always favors the lovely; she successfully conceived a baby just as her body was recovering. For Shiyi, this child is the most beautiful gift from heaven and holds special meaning. She once thought to wait until her family and finances were stable before planning, but fate and destiny are unpredictable. At this moment, she feels more happiness and gratitude.
Pregnancy is a special period in a woman's life. She said, "Although the child did not come easily, I couldn't just put down my work and ignore it. If I said I didn't want to rest, that would be a lie. The first three months were so bad with vomiting and strong reactions. But this position is really important, so no matter how hard or tiring it is, I have to persist." A sense of responsibility and conscience made pregnant Shiyi resolutely overcome the pain and continue her work, staying true to her belief.
Now six months pregnant, she is slowly feeling the strength of life and the happiness and anticipation it brings.
Time has transformed a young girl just starting out into a mature and confident professional woman.
"When I first arrived, I did whatever the leaders assigned me, following their instructions on everything." In November 2010, like many young girls, Shiyi came to Qianchuan hoping to find a stable job with room for growth. According to her, what moved her to stay was that the general manager and her direct leader, Luo Botao, was about her age. "Working with a young leader, we might understand and have more tacit understanding with each other, so I thought it would be a better fit."
Starting from the most basic secretarial work, Shiyi spent several years transforming herself into a general manager's office secretary who can handle things independently. More precisely, she acts like an assistant, helping the general manager handle daily company affairs and responsible for final review of various documents. She told reporters that in this position, she needs to better understand the leader's intentions, prepare work in advance according to his wishes, and collect enough materials and information to help him make better decisions. She said, "Now, I find more problems myself, collect materials, and then report to the leader. For example, if he needs something, I have to understand why he wants it, then organize these things under that premise, and finally present him with what he really wants."
Being in such a position may arouse envy. Following the footsteps of senior company leaders, what you see, hear, think, and realize will be different. Shiyi said that being close to the leader has indeed broadened her horizons, especially in terms of thinking. The way she views and thinks about problems has been influenced in many invisible ways, as well as their lifestyle and philosophy, which have greatly impacted her vision and perspective. At the same time, she said that as a secretary, one must have strong stress resistance and flexible time management. "For example, when the leader needs something, he may arrange many tasks at once, and you must unconditionally do your best to complete these tasks in the shortest time. Many things are always beyond your planned scope."
Work must be serious and rigorous, but also well planned.
"I have already spent my fifth Spring Festival at Qianchuan," Shiyi sighed at how time flies but still felt gratified because she has clearly grown and matured here. She has learned a lot and gained many insights.
Especially the general manager Luo Botao taught her a lot. "Also born in the 80s, he shoulders the responsibility of enterprise development and progress. Since university, he started from the grassroots, growing through procurement, production frontline, and other areas. I admire his ability to calmly learn and his persistence and strength. They face more difficulties than we do, and the matters involved are unimaginable to us." Shiyi said. So under such circumstances, she has no reason not to do things well and to make her leader feel assured.
Therefore, she regards "seriousness, carefulness, and rigor" as the most basic work attitude and always keeps "responsibility" in mind. "Even the smallest mistake can lead to a big error, and the impact could be immeasurable. There are so many materials and documents to review every day; missing any issue or making even a tiny error in the data, even a decimal point, can cause a huge impact. So this forces you to be serious and careful." Besides this, she believes that to do a good job, the most important thing is to have a plan. "Especially since we mainly deal with management, this is not just a job but a macro-level result. When you want to reflect this result, you need to reverse-engineer it step by step, determining what effect each step should achieve and who should be assigned to each step. All of this requires good planning."
Life requires accumulation and a bit more leisure and comfort.
"Unaffected by honor or disgrace, watching the flowers bloom and fall before the courtyard; indifferent to coming or going, gazing at the clouds rolling and unfolding in the sky."
This is Shiyi's favorite line of poetry, and it clearly reflects her life philosophy and attitude. Her name, "Shiyi," also reveals a faint classical charm, and she personally prefers traditional and classical Chinese things. As a graduate of the Chinese department, she naturally has some unique insights into ancient Chinese literature, poetry, and art. "If you study Chinese classics carefully, you will find that many things today are degenerating. For example, the vocabulary used before, some ancient musical instruments, and some life philosophies were all very particular. Yet we have not well inherited their essence, which is a great pity for society as a whole. When you seriously savor those things, you find them very interesting." Her love for classical culture is evident.
With a temperament refined by poetry and books, Shiyi uses her knowledge and continuous life accumulation to improve herself, and life has taken on a unique flavor. When free, she listens to music at home, reads quietly, or grows some small flowers and plants. This is a state of contentment, a mindset of continuous learning, and a poetic sentiment of watching flowers bloom and fall before the courtyard and gazing at the clouds rolling and unfolding in the sky.
Qianchuan not only shapes wood but also shapes people like Shiyi who bring pleasure to everyone.
