Vision Extends Thousands of Miles, Mountains and Rivers Majestic — Exclusive Interview with Luo Baitao, General Manager of Qianchuan Wooden Doors (Part 1)

  Preface:
Twenty-nine years of precise management, nineteen years focused on wooden doors, have established Qianchuan's outstanding position in the wooden door field. Time is a form of inheritance and a rule; only those enterprises that withstand market tests can build the industry's backbone and, in an era of fierce competition, hold high the pen to write glorious chapters. Chengdu Qianchuan Wood Industry Co., Ltd. has a broad vision, forges its team, and improves quality and service. In the microeconomic and internet era leading to the future, Qianchuan carries unique ambition and determination!
Part One — Twenty-nine Years of Excellence in Wood Industry Management
The development of the market economy has promoted social progress, reflected in consumers having more rights to choose and demand satisfaction. Many enterprises, relying on excellent business concepts, have not only achieved their own success but also maximally met consumer needs, realizing an organic integration of enterprises and consumers, opening new paths toward consumers, markets, and the future. Qianchuan Wooden Doors has undergone twenty-nine years of operational optimization and upgrading, forging a development path unique to Qianchuan. Every move and decision gathers the wisdom and courage of Qianchuan people, with each step blooming a magnificent dance of corporate rebirth.
Wise Planning, Specializing in Wooden Doors
In the 1980s, the aesthetic form of Chinese furniture was caught between tradition and breakthrough, with modern furniture styles increasingly favored by consumers and new development trends becoming clear. Qianchuan Wooden Doors, the brightest star enterprise in Sichuan, was born in such an era. In 1986, Qianchuan began its journey with furniture production, accumulating strong capital and strength over nearly ten years. Unexpectedly, in 1996, Qianchuan suddenly shifted to wooden door production. What made Chairman Luo Zhengren make such a decision?
German thinker Goethe once said that bold decisions are like moving chess pieces; they may be captured, but they mark the start of victory. Unlike the passive corporate transformations advocated today, Qianchuan's move was a wise and skillful act. General Manager Luo Botao explained: "Although Sichuan's furniture industry started early, it was still a latecomer nationally, with relatively backward equipment and technology, diverse furniture lines, and insufficient capital concentration. To follow market trends, we cut previous furniture and flooring products to focus on professional, industrialized, and large-scale production. In the mid-1990s, after in-depth market research, Qianchuan found that unfinished doors were favored by the market. In 1995, we established Sichuan Lushan County Chuanwang Wood Industry Co., Ltd., starting large-scale production and sales of unfinished doors." The popularity of unfinished doors began around 1995 and peaked in 1999. Taking this opportunity, Qianchuan, with relentless pursuit of quality and service, quickly captured the market, built a good reputation, and laid a solid foundation for becoming a leading national wooden door enterprise.
Product Upgrading and Expansion of Influence Radius
At the end of the 1990s, Qianchuan moved from Ya'an to Chengdu, began adjusting product structure, upgrading products, targeting the engineering door market, and expanding sales radius. These major moves led the company to the industry's high ground. Chairman Luo Zhengren showed unique entrepreneurial qualities in responding to market changes and corporate innovation.
An entrepreneur is a quality, not a position. What defines an entrepreneur? Three things: first, vision—the ability to spot profit opportunities others miss; second, courage—to make decisive decisions; third, organizational ability—to combine various production factors efficiently. Qianchuan's decision-makers' precise grasp of the situation was not mere following but had far-reaching strategic foresight.
First, as the unfinished door market matured, competition intensified, profit growth slowed, and product life cycle neared decline, Qianchuan had to find new substitutes to refresh products and reactivate market vitality. Second, the real estate economy rapidly developed, creating a huge blue ocean market—the engineering door market. Timely seamless market connection and seizing first-hand resources became a wise move for excellent entrepreneurs developing future markets. Third, the 1998 great flood raised ecological and environmental protection awareness, restricting tree cutting and eliminating Ya'an's raw material advantage. To open broader sales and raw material markets, the above decisions became necessary and timely.
Qianchuan's three major measures not only promoted product upgrading but also opened two major markets—high-end and engineering doors—while forming a nationwide channel network centered in Chengdu, successfully expanding sales radius. Qianchuan welcomed its best development opportunity since founding, with brand strength accumulating and market share rising sharply, officially entering a "fast fish" period.
  Capacity Expansion and Far-reaching Ambition
In fierce competition, enterprises must focus on economic efficiency, producing as many marketable products as possible with minimal consumption and capital occupation. In this process, Qianchuan expanded market share through "external image building and internal potential excavation" with extreme cost operations. However, rapid growth made existing production capacity insufficient to meet market demand, making capacity expansion imperative.
General Manager Luo Botao said: "The company achieved gratifying results through strict product quality management and design efforts. In 2005, it was the first in the industry to pass ISO9001:2000 quality management system certification and obtained a utility model patent for 'scalable snap-on quick-install door frames.' New products further accelerated Qianchuan's market expansion. The original production line began full operation. A company can fail due to slowed growth or lack of change. Our urgent task is to use speed to gain market share, and the primary issue is expanding capacity."
In 2008, Qianchuan settled in the Wenjiang Cross-Strait Industrial Park, building a nationally renowned solid wood door production base with the largest wooden door showroom in the country at the time. Production capacity was fully released, a new journey began, and new product line development was imminent. Qianchuan stood at the industry's forefront with renewed vigor.
Capacity Upgrade and Leap Forward Through Accumulated Strength
The theory of regional comparative advantage holds that differences in resource endowment and allocation efficiency among regions lead to different comparative advantages. This theory further catalyzed the emergence and development of enclave economies. When expanding scale, enclaves do not abandon their original characteristics and industrial advantages but adjust focus according to their actual situation to leverage management, capital, and market advantages. Qianchuan's nationwide marketing network expansion created huge transportation cost pressures and weakened management and transport capacity at the network's edges. Building industrial chains between regions became an important solution, making enclave economy construction another major initiative for Qianchuan.
With the rapid development of the wooden door industry, Qianchuan has once again made a new strategic plan, investing heavily to establish another important production base in Hong'an County, Hubei Province. In July 2011, the Qianchuan Wooden Door Central China Production Base was grandly founded in the Rongyuan Furniture Industrial City in Hong'an, Hubei. The total area covers 360 acres, with a production workshop area of 63,000 square meters. Once fully completed, the annual output value will reach about 1.5 billion yuan, employing more than 3,000 people. The establishment of the Central China base has laid a solid foundation for Qianchuan to stand firm in Central China, radiate nationwide, and sell well worldwide.
Diligently Cultivating Complete Decoration, Charming Qianchuan
Currently, with the increased efforts in new urbanization construction, real estate markets across various regions are vigorously promoting fully decorated housing projects. Coupled with homeowners' demand for "one-stop" home products, home furnishing brands are teaming up with real estate giants to undertake the overall home furnishing business for community homeowners, becoming a market hotspot with promising prospects. More and more home furnishing manufacturers are trying out integrated home furnishing, and the industry is showing unprecedented competition. Strategically, there is a shift from single products to multiple businesses. Focusing on the company's comprehensive strength, mid-to-long-term development strategies are formulated, including market research, project demonstration, capital investment, product positioning, as well as risk assessment and market emergency response plans. Strategy serves as the "guideline" to coordinate operations and management.
Compared to other wooden door companies, Qianchuan has its own "internal strength" advantages. From furniture to wooden doors and then to complete decoration, Qianchuan's operational logic seems to have returned to the old path, but it is a scientific progressive path for the company to unleash its potential. The philosopher Voltaire once said: "Those who do not possess the spirit of this era will bear all the misfortunes of this era." Every strategic shift of Qianchuan is a choice that conforms to the times and adapts to the trend. Moreover, Qianchuan has innate technical advantages in solid wood complete decoration.
Since 2014, Qianchuan has embarked on the path of solid wood complete decoration development, creating customized exclusive products for high-quality life groups. Today, Qianchuan Wooden Door's first solid wood complete decoration experience center has been established in Fusenmei Home Furnishing (North Gate Store) in Chengdu, covering an area of 600 square meters. The Fusenmei Home Furnishing (South Gate Store) is also actively advancing, taking a solid step towards realizing the ideal of leading the development direction of wooden doors in China.
